A second chance at love

Elle Noble knows about loss. Her battle with cancer stole her chance at love, her hopes for a dance career and her dreams for a family of her own.

Still, she’s found a life she’s content with, working alongside her brothers and father at their family resort. But Canyon Creek Mountain Ski Resort isn’t doing well. Tourism in the small Colorado town is down and working with the neighboring lodge might be their best bet to turn things around.

Joining forces with the Sumner family lodge means working with Emmett Sumner. He was her best friend, and the man she’s loved for most of her life. Until she foolishly let him go five years ago. Being so close to temptation and the object of her desire is enough to drive her mad. Mad enough to do something she shouldn’t. To hope again.

Emmett Sumner refuses to love Elle Noble again. She’s broken his heart, twice. But when they’re thrown together for work, he finds himself falling all over again until he discovers she hasn’t overcome her need to keep secrets, reinforcing his determination to keep his distance. Trying to convince his heart to stay away might be a bigger challenge.

Book Review

Emmett Sumner is the writer. He's back in town to help his mother save the lodge. He's doing the website's blog and trying to drum up marketing buzz. That's when his mother decides it would be a good idea to team up with the resort on the other side of the hill. Not a bad marketing plan, but terrible for Em's heart because that is the resort owned by Elle Noble's family.
The Nobles and Sumners have had a feud running for years, but it never cast it's shadow on the lives of Em and Elle all through school. They were the best of friends, and their families thought they would end up together, but they didn't. A series of events draws them apart and both of them are nursing a broken heart.
Can this be the time for them to get back together and make a third try to be together? Yes, it definitely can!

Book Description

"I never meant to become a witch. But when someone you love dies, logic and reason die with them."

Sebastian Blackwell is your typical high school popular kid: attractive, charming, and a little rebellious. At least he used to be. But when his parents are killed in a freak accident, he goes from cool kid to orphan outcast before the dirt even settles over their graves. Now a shell of his former self, Sebastian realizes what really matters in life and is determined to get it back, no matter the cost. To do it, he'll have to delve into his family's darkest secrets, secrets his parents tried to protect him from his whole life.

With a ghost as his only friend, a goth girl his only ally, and a demon prince his only chance, Sebastian sets out on a desperate path of redemption that seems more likely to damn him than to save him. For all power has a price, and Sebastian must decide what he is willing to pay to defy death itself.

Book Review

When I got word about this book detailing Sebastian's early years was out, I had to get it. It tells us how the mundane boy born in a wizard family gets into magic and becomes a witch. So much is explained about his relationship with his great great aunt, Mrs Barrington. It was wonderful to read about the sixteen year old boy who last becomes that charming adult we meet up with in the Lily Singer series. Can't wait for the next book in both series.

Book Description

After the death of her beloved guardian, Miss Felicity Fields is left adrift, her future uncertain. Grief-stricken, she launches a plan to use her knowledge of alchemy to build a Philosopher's Stone, and bring back to life the woman who was like a mother to her. The last thing this blunt bluestocking needs is the return of Nicholas Harding, the Duke of Wycliffe and rightful owner of her home on the wild coast of Cornwall. He stirs an unexpected passion within her, and Felicity has had enough change in her life.

When they were children, Nicholas never understood his aunt's brilliant but unemotional ward, or her many strange scientific studies. He ought to take her back to London, so she can make a proper society match--except he can't stop thinking about her. But with the line between life and death blurred by Felicity's macabre experiments, can he convince her that she's no longer alone, and her proper place is by his side?

Book Review

Nicholas has returned to Cornwall to take charge of his responsibilities as the Duke of Wycliffe. A task that he has avoided for years. Now that his aunt has died, he needs to arrange for Felicity, his aunt's ward to have a proper introduction to the ton. He wants to do his duty by her, however she wants nothing to do with high society.
Felicity has always felt that death was responsible for taking away everyone she loved. Her parents, then her uncle and aunt. She's always been brilliant and now she's dabbling in alchemy with the intention of creating the Philosopher's Stone so that she can bring back her aunt to life. Unfortunately even with her brilliance she's not found the solution.
Nicholas is more than shocked by her attempt at reversing death, but he can't help but still be attracted to her. He's always been protective about her, and now he finds the thought of introducing her to someone else and marrying her off disheartening. Then she begins a scientific experiment by kissing him, and he knows that he will never be able to let her go.
It's a story of two misfits who have been struggling with their place in society, who finally find peace together.

Book Review

This is another story of disabled veterans. Here we have a widowed Delta Force veteran, Viper and an amputee Army Ranger Dallas. Book Review

I enjoy every trip I make back to Harmony Valley. This time round we meet Vince Messina. He's coming home to his brother Joe's wedding. Naturally he can't go back alone. He needs a date and the only person he would ever consider asking is the girl who he's still hung up on even after breaking up with. Harley O’Hannigan has a secret that has her working as a lowly construction worker despite her architect's degree. She's bound by law and unable to share her troubles. That makes Vince think that she's simply throwing away the advantages that a good education have given her. If only things were as simple as they seemed, but in Harley's life nothing ever is.

Now Harmony Valley plays it's magic between the two. Of course things become a bit more complicated when Harley realizes that she's pregnant with Vince's baby. Vince runs from the emotional attachment, convinced that he's doing the best for her. She may have lost one Messina with her pregnancy announcement but she's gained a ready made family with his brothers and their wives.

Book Review

The adventures of Dara, Mackenzie and Jennifer continue in this third book of the F.I.G. mysteries. This time round Mackenzie is chosen to lead a project that is top secret and may lead to amazing advancements in the field of science. The project is based in China. Dara is being asked to help out at an archaeological site which is also in China. There is no doubt that both Carolina and Jennifer will accompany them there.

The trip is overshadowed with a warning of danger for Mackenzie sent out by Carolina's gypsy mother in Italy. She needs to be protected from the dragon who means her bodily harm. Will her friends be able to keep Mackenzie safe, even as her genius shines in solving the problems of her secret research project?

There are old friends from New York revisited, and Carolina's boyfriend is again trying to run to their rescue as soon as his Gypsy senses twitch. The discovery of Mackenzie's origins and family was interesting.

I enjoyed reading the book, there were a number of twists and turns that led to you wondering what was coming next. Although I could have done with a little less of the repetition from the first couple of books. For someone following the series it was boring, however I suppose for someone who picks up the book as a standalone, it would be fine.

When the new laird comes back to claim his land, his determination to restore order threatens everything Celia has worked so hard to gain, especially with the undeniable attraction sizzling between them. Together, they will face all challenges, from the tangle of their own damaged pasts to the fire-fueled witch hunts sweeping the Isle of Mull. Together, they will find that the best way to overcome darkness and war is through the undeniable light of love.

Book Review

Alec has come back to a castle in ruins, a people plagued by bandits and a land gone wild. He has his task cut out for himself to claim his birthright. He's not afraid of hard work, but he's not expecting Celia to upset his well balanced apple cart.

Celia has a gift for healing, it's not witchcraft, it's knowledge of herbs. However that does not stop her from being sought out as a witch. Having escaped from a witch hunt as a child, she has tried to stay low key and heal those who came to her.

She was not looking forward to having to heal Alec. Even if he had saved the life of a young girl. The two of them are not looking for a relationship, but their sparks cause a fire between them. Both want to keep it purely physical, but love blooms.

Just when Celia felt that she could open her heart to more, an old enemy catches up to her and she must flee if she wants to live. The only way he can keep her safe is by staying away from her. Unfortunately, a misguided guided youth manages to bungle up her hiding space.

There are so many elements of drama, such complex characters and their motivation woven into the tale. You simply can't put the book down and say I'll come back to this. You have to read to find out what happened next, till you eventually end the book with a heartfelt sigh offering thanks to the author for having helped them find their happy ending despite all odds.
